Happy #GivingTuesday! In the spirit of our deck, we’re huge on supporting service dog fundraisers—so today we’re doubling donations.

For anything purchased from our shop, we’re donating a whole 30% of profits! Twice our usual!

We also want to share a bit about the process of getting a service dog (SD), since it’s a truly challenging thing.

Most cost over $20,000 to get from a program, or they take around 600 hours to train at home (and still cost upwards of $10,000)! They’re life-saving for disabled people, but unfortunately no health insurance plans cover them, despite being classified as a medical device.

Finding non-profit organizations, where disabled people may not need to pay anything, is incredibly challenging too. They usually receive thousands of applications a year and only train a dozen or so dogs. Plus, not all disabilities have organizations who train dogs for those conditions (we personally ran into this issue!).

So many people end up owner training by getting an expensive pup, hiring private trainers, and spending hours hoping their own training will make an ideal service dog. It’s a tough, difficult process!

We’re looking to make that easier for one person at a time though our service dog sponsorship program. By donating a portion of profits, we’ll pay for all the starting costs for someone to get their service dog.

Our neighbor didn’t die, he was just needed someplace else.

He took a moment that was about recognizing him and turned it into a moment to recognize everyone who was there and everyone who made it possible for him to do what he does. If you want a perfect example of why he is so fondly remembered and such a great person, it’s tough to find a better one than this.
