Mixing two of my favourite things: ballet and the 18th century, here’s this video of Valentino Zucchetti dancing a solo created for “le dieu de la danse”, Auguste Vestris. There’s even a print about this dance:
Marie-Jean-Augustin Vestris (1760-1842) was a French dancer who was basically a rockstar: from becoming a "premier sujet de la danse“ (kind of a modern “etoile”) at the Paris Opéra at 20 years old, to having a portrait by Thomas Gainsborough himself (it used to be attributed to Gainsborough Dupont).
So, even though we now see dancers turning more, jumping higher, and being more flexible, who says ballet was not quite spectacular back then?
Backstage aesthetic! A few of my go-to things for shows and rehearsals in here:
1. Chocolate! (my collection has grown since these were taken) 2. My insanely hard foam roller 3. Emergen-C (shipped from the USA in a care package) to help me get through rehearsals 4. My camera (although I haven’t been able to take half as many photos as I’d like recently!)
