Our Yule tree is up!! We didn’t end up with a potted tree (S.O. won this time), but our ornaments are all handmade! The glass balls each hold a spell for happiness, prosperity, inspiration, etc. in the new year. And around the bottom of the tree, instead of cinnamon bundles like elsewhere, we strategically placed a few bundles of silvervine for our kitties ❤

Hey folks, I’m going to be having a shop update tomorrow featuring quite a few things, but not the least of which are some pretty new pendulums! I’ve got some Forget-Me-Not pendulums, Lavender, Chinese Forget-Me-Not, a Fern Moss pendulum, and one super witchy, poisonous Larkspur bloom pendulum.

All of these will be available tomorrow at around 12pm EST!

Hello everyone! Now’s a good time to post a reminder that my work can be found on these other platforms. I’ll still be posting here for the foreseeable future, but if Tumblr eventually kills off the community we’ve all built here with their continued poor choices, please come find me!

Hi! I’m interested in getting into natural dyes & making dog leashes mainly. I was wondering how you learned how to produce your colors? I absolutely love how rich they are! Especially that blue in your recent post. Thanks!!

2dyecru:

A lot of research, and experimentation! If your local library is fairly well stocked, there’s a good chance they have books about dyeing in their craft section (dewey decimal who? I can’t remember what it is!) and googling “natural dyes” will get you pretty far!

Some things are easier than others: brown and yellow you can get with a whole host of plants, but the deep indigo blue can really only be achieved with a good fermentation vat of indigo, which is hard to learn how to do and really does take a lot of effort to set up.

I personally like Madder a lot for red and orange, and cochineal for pink and purple! They are both fairly easy to start with too 🙂 And then you just experiment with amounts of dyestuff and how long to let it sit for!

Putting the finishing touches on the show pieces for my next craft show, including this Three Drawer Jewelry Chest. I’m particularly happy with how the varnish brought out the figure in the Red Gum in the case.
