I didn’t just want to draw a floating heart, so I decided to put it on a very familiar childhood medium–a paper plane. We didn’t get to throw paper planes a lot, which makes sense because we probably have to pick them up ourselves, which is part of responsible living. But I think in those times there were pockets of moments where we thought writing confession letters were amazing and writing in everyone’s memory books were cool and so we did that. Me and my classmates. And I remembered back then that the really cool people were the ones that could talk to both boys and girls well. I admired that.

WEATHER REPORT – ACE OF CUPS. Yesterday we had the Five of Swords, a hard lesson in getting our buttons pushed. Today, we’re reminded that we can open our hearts to whatever the day brings our way, be it pleasurable, painful, or just kind of meh. This has been very much on my mind lately, as I consciously work on soothing myself through challenging emotions (ain’t that the work of a lifetime!). We all struggle with the intensity of feeling we’re capable of – look at this overflowing cup! It’s abundant, it’s a blessing, but sometimes having this much depth of feeling means we spill tea everywhere! I’ve been leaning heavily on Pema Chodron’s teachings on the practice of tonglen (if you want to change your life, look them up!), where she teaches us that instead of pushing away from pain, we can pull it in and hold it with compassion. When we’re feeling challenged, what we do is “breathe into the heart, so that the heart gets as big as it needs to be to contain this pain.” Now, the Ace of Cups is traditionally a sweet card, filled with love and pleasure, but this principle applies to everything we might be feeling today. Trust that you don’t need to turn away from it, minimize it, be it good or bad or something else. Trust that your heart has infinite capacity, even if it overflows 💗
