🌱 – Book of Shadows update! / Beginner’s witch tip.

Yesterday I went on my first foraging trip, so I drew up a page for my little hike. I realised I didn’t quite have all the things that a forager should have, but I made do. I had 1 gardening glove (unfortunately I couldn’t find the other!), a pair of scissors, a few things to hold the contents of my findings in, my phone, a rucksack, and my trusty pair of walking boots.

So, if you’re a witch who is struggling to find things to fill your book of shadows with, then consider documenting your foraging/other witchy activities.

So! Here it is!  My witchcraft notebook, 2018.  At first glance, it’s a bunch of notes, upon smelling it, you should smell ink, paper, and lily fragrance oil- I’m too poor for actual essential oils, but I buy warming oils and use a qtip to scent my notebooks.

One of my favorite things is my word cloud, because it grows in time with the notebook, the more pages I add, the more subjects I get to add to my word cloud.

I also have some pages for 2018 in general, like the moon names page.  A lot of my notes end up broken up, I put away a book, but keep my notebook out as I go through pinterest or tumblr, writing things down, or I read a different book for a while.  They’re never in a straight line, so my crystal notes are all over the place in 2-3 page segments.

I have a lot of pages like my heart page, I have one for my faults, for my thoughts, and for things I can control.  Another one pictured is subjects I want to explore in some way, deeper or at all.

The Astronomy notes are another example of broken up notes- the planetary notes are much farther back than the start of the astronomy section.  But I finally finished the book so I may put that subject away for a little while.  All of the notes are from the book, and I do prefer multiple sources before committing to something, so that’s something a notebook allows me to do as well, copy down all my sources that I like, then pour that information into a pot and melt it all down into a tasty condensed stock of knowledge for me to hold on to.

Offerings For The Dead & Cartomancy are a few of my favorite pages, because I visit cemeteries often, clean up graves and leave acorns, I enjoy caring for the passed.  I also collect cards- this started before I even got into Tarot, and is even why I got into tarot.  So I have this collection of decks of cards, about 10 regular decks that I’ve picked up over time, from places and events, and about 8 tarot decks.  I keep some of my regular decks with my tarot decks because I have such a loving feel toward them that I want them to be highly regarded, and so this page makes me excited because now I can utilize them in a new way- and even begin to form my own definitions and understandings.

9 pages is definitely not the end of my notebook but it can easily give an impression.  So, when I fill it up I will begin a new notebook, and I will go through the 2018 one.  I’ll add what I want to keep to my online gdrive and keep it in my Online BoS, or I will transcribe things I want to research further into the new notebook.

Does not having all the notes together and orderly possibly make things harder to find? yes.  Do I feel super accomplished and smart when I flip through the pages looking for something I just know I wrote down in the margin of a page? yes.  I would say this is my larvae book, where everything begins and hatches as a concept that could survive into my craft.
